Keiner war so früh schon, so lange und schließlich so übereinstimmend als der entscheidende Künstler seiner Epoche gedeutet worden. Keiner wurde so oft zum Thema in Dichtungen oder Filmen. Note signed by Picasso „Picasso“ to Jean Leymarie of the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris: „Joyente fête - Jean […]“. Signed by Picasso and Jacqueline Roque Picasso, Catherine Hutin-Blay et Bella. Jacqueline Picasso (1927–1986) was the last muse and second wife of Pablo Picasso. Their marriage lasted 11 years until his death, during which time he created over 400 portraits of her, more than any of Picasso's other loves. Catherine Hutin-Blay was her daughter, and step daughter of Pablo Picasso. Pablo Picasso perhaps the most influential and recognizable painter of the 20th century, is well known for his deep love and appreciation for women.

Although he had many lovers throughout his life, only eight of them became his muses. The first of his muses was Fernande Olivier (1881-1966), who was also his first long-time partner. She is depicted in many pieces from his Rose Period. She left him after he became to possessive. The second of his muses was Eva Gouel (1885-1915) who was one of Fernande’s friends. Eva is often called the „queen of his cubist works” as she appeared in a series of his works of that genre. The third of his muses, Olga Khokhlova (1891-1955), a Russian ballerina, became his first wife. She was a big opponent of the Cubism he was developing at the time and demanded to be painted in a completely different style. The fourth of Picasso’s muses was Marie-Thérèse Walter (1909-1977), who was 29 years younger then Picasso. She modelled for his Surrealistic pieces. The fifth muse was Dora Maar (1907-1997). She was a photographer and a painter and witness to him creating his masterpiece Guernica. With Françoise Gilot (1921) Picasso had two children. In 1964 she published her memoirs called Life with Picasso and moved to New York. He painted a series of at least 20 drawings of Geneviève Laporte (1926-2012), who ended the relationship in 1953..

In 1904, he founded the association La peau de l'Ours, which played a role in launching Picasso and modern art. The public auction he organized in 1914 was one of Picasso's early successes. Portrait of the Swiss publisher Albert Skira (1904-76), dated and inscribed with the dedication: "Pour ces 25 ans d'éditions et 30 Ans d'Amitié. Picasso". The expressive profile of Skira, including parts of his shoulders and one arm, is representative of Picasso's sketchy and graphic art oriented late style. It is the last of seven numbered portraits of the publisher that Picasso drew on the evening of 16 September 1953 in the booth of a restaurant in Golfe-Juan. - Skira "played an important role in Picasso's life in that in the fall of 1930 he commissioned him to illustrate Ovid's Metamorphoses.

Picasso achieved surrealist transformations in an admirably classical graphic style [...]. This was one of the reasons that led Vollard to commission him to produce what was to become the Vollard Suite. Skira subsequently offered him another opportunity by creating, in 1933, the splendid magazine 'Minotaure': for the cover of the first issue, Picasso created a virtuoso collage" (cf. Pierre Daix, Dictionnaire Picasso). - With original fold mark and insignificant tears in the fold. An unrelated note in ink on the verso reads: "Vauthier baryton"..
