Maler und Fotograf, 1895-1946

László Moholy-Nagy, ursprünglich László Weisz, war ein ungarisch-US-amerikanischer Maler, Fotograf, Typograf und Bühnenbildner sowie einer der bedeutendsten Lehrer am Bauhaus. Seit 1924 war er in Zusammenarbeit mit Gropius Herausgeber der Bauhausbücher. Gestaltend und beratend vereinte er die ästhetischen Forderungen des Bauhauses mit den Bedingungen und Mechanismen der Produktwerbung. Das „Jenaer Glas“ wurde zum Inbegriff moderner Warenkultur. Ein Jahr nach Hitlers Machtergreifung 1934 emigrierte er zunächst nach Amsterdam, dann nach England und später in die USA, wo er das „New Bauhaus“ in Chicago sowie nach dessen Schließung 1938/1939 die Nachfolgeeinrichtung „School of Design“ gründete.

Detailed correspondence (in German) with Frantisek Kalivoda on the publication of a special edition of "Telehor" devoted to Moholy-Nagy, with praise of the recipient's work, ("It's amazing what you manage to achieve"), and of a prospective title ("The title 'thesis -- antithesis -- synthesis' is wonderfully Marxist - or Hegelian"), and declaring that "My one desire is, through telepathy and telesympathy, to make your work easy and pleasant". The papers comprise 3 sketches within text of paintings, and a sketched design for the outer covers of the special edition of "Telehor".
