Steven Terrence „Steve“ McQueen war ein US-amerikanischer Film- und Fernsehschauspieler. Er zählte in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren zu den renommiertesten Filmschauspielern der USA und war in Western wie „Die glorreichen Sieben”, aber auch in Abenteuer- („Papillon”) und Actionfilmen („Bullitt“, „Getaway“) zu sehen. McQueen spielte häufig Einzelgänger, die ihren eigenen Regeln folgen, und bekam wegen seines lässig-lakonischen Darstellungsstils schon zu Lebzeiten den Spitznamen „Mr. Cool“. Er wird häufig als jemand betrachtet, der in Stil und Auftreten eine bestimmte Ära verkörperte, und gilt über seinen Tod hinaus als ikonische Figur der Populärkultur.

Steve McQueen, nicknamed „King of Cool", developed an antihero persona and this made him a top box-office draw during the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles. His other popular films include The Cincinnati Kid, Love With the Proper Stranger, The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, The Getaway, and Papillon, as well as the all-star ensemble films The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, and The Towering Inferno. In 1974, he became the highest-paid movie star in the world, although he did not act in films again for four years.
