Letter to a friend in which Lichtenberger offers to write the preface for a French translation of Nietzsche's "L'Ecce Homo" by author and journalist Alexandre Vialatte, which was published in 1931: "Je serai volontier les préfaces que vous me demandez pur les traductions de Nietzsche de M. Vialatte". Furthermore, Lichtenberger asks to be send posters and reminds his friend to not send any mail between 10 April and 5 Mai during his absence from home. - Lichtenberger was professor for German literature in Nancy and Paris, and a specialist on Friedrich Nietzsche.

He wrote a Nietzsche biography that was translated by Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, Friedrich's sister, in 1898. Together with her, Lichtenberger wrote a second Nietzsche biography in 1928..
