"Grieg gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Komponisten der Romantik. Ähnlich wie die Gruppe der Fünf in Russland mit Mussorgski an der Spitze verschmolz Grieg Elemente der Volksmusik seiner Heimat – wie leere Quinten, scharf betonte Tanzrhythmen, das Schwanken zwischen modalen und Dur-Molltonarten – mit satztechnischen Errungenschaften der Spätromantik. Seine Harmonik weist teilweise auf den Impressionismus voraus und ist in einigen Kompositionen wie etwa ""Klokkeklang"" (Glockenklang, aus dem Zyklus der Lyrischen Stücke op. 54) von einzigartiger Radikalität. Er gilt vor allem im Ausland als der norwegische Komponist schlechthin."

Pleyel to play with the "elite of the conservatory's orchestra" at the same time. He then received a somewhat delayed and oblique, and, at last, declining answer from M. Colonne, so that he finally asks his correspondent, who knows Paris better than he does, whether he should accept Pleyel's offer or ask Lamoureux, or whether he should postpone his Paris concert by one more year. - On stationery with printed address.
