James Gregory (1758–1822), Mediziner. E. Brief mit U. (Fragment). Edinburgh, [23.–]28. Februar 1816. 3 Seiten auf 2 Bll. 4°. Mit e. Adresse. – An den Chirurgen George Wilson in Alnwick: „[...] I need not tell you, but you may tell Miss Morner’s parents, that it is often very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to produce Salivation in a Child, by any use of Mercury; so they need not think this strong Practice, which I recommend, severe or dangerous. I should hope her Mouth may be very sensibly affected in a Fortnight; but not to the degree of violent painfull [!] Salivation.

This may easily be prevented, and her mouth kept properly affected for Three of Four weeks, or longer of She bear it well and it seem to do her good, by occasionally omitting and repeating for a few days at a time the use of the Ointment and the Pills (or the Calomel). During the whole of the course She must be kept strictly within doors, and warmly clothed, especially with Flannel next her Skin [...] Compare the Date at the End with that at the beginning of this long letter; and you will have some notion what a life of incessant drudgery I lead at this Season of the Year“. – Beiliegend eine alte Sammlungsbeschreibung..
