Pierre Bonnard
Maler, 1867-1947
Zu den Hauptmotiven des vom japanischen Holzschnitt faszinierten Bonnard zählten insbesondere Landschaften, Blumengärten, Segelboote und der weibliche Akt. Er war vor allem von den Bildern Paul Gauguins fasziniert und zählt wegen der starken Bedeutung des Lichts in seinen Werken zu den Malern des Post-Impressionismus, obwohl er im Grunde einen eigenen Stil verwirklichte, der in die symbolistische Richtung geht. Im Jahr 1964 wurden Arbeiten von ihm auf der documenta III in Kassel in der Abteilung Handzeichnungen gezeigt. Für seine Verdienste wurde er 1940 als Ehrenmitglied der Royal Academy of Arts (Hon. RA) aufgenommen.

To Paul Gallimard (1850-1929) asking to loan him "deux Lautrec à droite et à gauche de la fenetre de votre cabinet de travail". He notes that one has broken glass, and that he will have his own framer replace it. Bonnard thanks Gallimard on behalf of himself and "Les Independants". - Center fold, perforations torn somewhat hastily when the note was opened, with two short tears on the left edge, the right edge torn with loss of one or two letters, and perhaps a short word, slight toning at head, with holograph address on verso.
